- York Yankees win five straight World Series championships from
- 1949 to 1953; of pancreatic cancer; in Darien, Conn. Winner of
- 166 games, he earned the nickname "the Junk Man" for throwing an
- assortment of pitches at different speeds (none terribly fast),
- but all with the same motion.
